CCRAA Activity 4
President's Male Initiative on Learning Excellence (MILE)
This activity seeks to create a unique set of deliberate learning experiences that motivates academic and personal success, emphasizing learning experiences that focus on addressing greater awareness of student's academic talents, strengths, and aspirations. The overall goals of the activity are to:
- Increase student involvement in existing academic-based and educationally purposeful experiences, activities and resources the University puts in place for supporting student learning and development, including the University's Writing Studio, Supplemental Instruction, and Center for Learning and Teaching.
- Engage students in specialized learning opportunities designed around social and civic responsibility, values clarification, hyper-masculinity and character development.
- Integrate an understanding and appreciation for diverse genres of music in the collegiate experience of African American males, as many of these students develop a sense of self and identity formation through popular "hip hop" music.
- Create a student success platform for admitted first-year African American male students through a common intelectual experience.
